The Power of Words

A raw military recruit learns almost immediately the harshness of a drill instrutor’s words when they step off the bus at bootcamp. The drill instructors will surround a recruit and start shouting demoralizing words and orders to break any sense of confidence the recruit might of had before he or she stepped off the bus. This form of abuse will continue for almost the entire length of bootcamp.

The purpose of the verbal onslaught is to breakdown any self confidence or self reliance of a recruit so that they cannot think for themselves. Eventually all thoughts of what to think or how to act will be given from the drill instructors. Some recruits will buckle under the pressure and cry. Some will become defiant then incur even more abuse, while some will calmly take the abuse and deal with it quietly knowing its just a head game.

I’ve experienced this first hand on both the receiving end and dishing it out as a sergeant while serving in the Army, so I have learned the power that words have.

There is a saying that, “The pen is mightier than the sword” by Edward George Earle Lytton Bulwer-Lytton (1803–1873)Is he saying that the pen is mighty or is it that the words which are written by the pen are mighty?… We all know that the words are what make the pen mighty.

According to the Urban Dictionary the quote means; a person can cause people to change their opinions(e.g., to fight a war) and on a large scale, whereas a sword can only change a peron’s opinion by force and then often only results in the person’s death. The Founding Fathers of the United States of America considered the pen to be mightier than the sword, and therefore were able to gain the freedom of America by uniting the colonists…Words do have power! They can bring together and unite a nation or divide it.

Because WORDS Are so Powerful, they can also be used as a weapon to hurt peoples feelings. Negative words can have a negative effect on people.  But they can also be used to encourage and lift peoples spirits. When we focus on using words to show our appreciation or to express to someone how great they look, the words have a positive effect.

We should constantly strive in using more positve words. Not only will they have a positive effect on the person receiving them but they will also make the person speaking them feel good too.

Whenever there is a negative situation, such as your child receiving a less than stellar report card. Use that moment to look at the positive by acknowleging  how hard they worked and that it will pay off the next semester if they continue to work hard…Always try to Turn a Negative into a Positive!

The Time of Year for Giving Thanks!

Ah the Autumn, my favorite time of year, leaves of gold and red,  crisp mornings and evenings when temperatures drop announcing the return of cold weather.

The fall harvest is usually one of abundance and with that being said, it is also a time for giving thanks.  A time to be grateful for all that we have,  the food that nourishes our bodies, our health, our home, our family and friends. It is also the time when we think of those less fortunate than us.

Our nation has not seen the hardship that we have experienced since the Great Depression. Families are suffering and there is a need for many things from clothes to food. It is my hope that this year, Americans will be more generous than ever before.

This is a great time of year to give many things away you do not need so that others may enjoy them. Clothes, blankets, furniture, food…. talk about it with your family this weekend and make an effort in November to give it away early so you can bless others.

Thank you!

WikiLeaks more US Military Docs!

WikiLeaks has just released 400,000 classified U.S. documents on the Iraq War. Those documents include the names of Iraqi informants, US military tactics, techniques and procedures of how we fought and continue to fight the war; putting our service personnel and the Iraqi informants at great risk! After realizing that the names of Iraqi informants were published, WikiLeaks removed all the names.

WikiLeaks contends that the truth about how many Iraqi civilian deaths and the abuse of prisoners needs to be exposed. Granted, that information must be known to some extent to prevent further incidents in the future, but not at the expense of current military personnel, when you consider that our enemies will be reading all these documents to learn how to best combat our tactics.

It is unconscionable that WikiLeaks would irresponsibly release information that is harmful to all current and future military operations in the Afghan and Iraqi theaters.  To read more about this story please visit:

Welcome to my blog!
A new day, a new era in communications where online blogging has become the mainstream way for people to post their views, promote products and just basically reach out and touch the world in a way not previously imagined.

I will offer news, product reviews, articles on health and wealth, videos, inspirational and funny quotes to encourage and brighten your day. I will also post my opinion on current events and ask for your thoughts in return.

My goal is to not only to entertain and inform you, I want to make you think, express your opinion and if you find something of value, pass it on to a friend.

Finally, I hope that you will stop by often and become a valued reader and participant. This is just the beginning (a work in progress) of what I  hope will become a  successful endeavor. Like opening day at a new ballpark, if you build it they will come
